1/4 Done!

It's done, I've finished the second color. And before Christmas! Even with a a week to spare!

I still have some pieces left over, mostly white-black-orange.
They have this tiny bit of orange, they make up the boarder between all the images and it's hard to see where they go. I've put down a lot of them, but I think probably half will be need to be repositioned when I'm puzzling the whole white boarder.

Anyway, This is what I have done so far:

I'm still missing one piece with a pretty decent size of orange, for the rest just the odd piece with a tiny amount of orange. (they probably got stuck in the red pile)


And even that piece, I found after I took out the box with my stash of pieces I'm not working on.

The piece I was missing was in here together with a piece I had been missing since I put down all the pink! But of course I already had put away all my cardboard plates, so I just put them back. Eventually they will be put in the wright spot :)





So while I was at it, I already separated the boards that will get green and took the green pieces out of my stash.
Now, I will not start on it immediately,but maybe in Januari 2017. Pim is traveling again, so it might be a good time. Although I won't have much time in Februari.
And it's nice to do something else in between. I didn't have much room to make anything else, my craft room was so full with cardboard everywhere.
Kids were not allowed in anymore because all the boards were perched on every drawer and tabletop I could find.

It's nice and empty now! AND it feels safe to vacuum again!

 

Vs 3 weeks ago!

So before I start green I'm gone enjoy my empty room 

and celebrate some Christmas and the new year!

Been busy!

Finally some progress,
I'm almost done with orange!
Pim has been travelling a lot the last month, so I had the evenings to puzzle too.

I've been really busy with it and laundry, cleaning and cooking came in between the puzzling, instead of the other way around.
So next week will be a catch up week in chores!

For now here is what is left:

Not much right!

the problem is, I need to find some pieces that I put down wrong. Like have the right size piece, but it needs to be only orange and the one I have has a black corner.
I'll get it eventually.
Tomorrow I will continue and I will take a picture of all the pieces that are done.

Good Progress

This weekend I finally made some progress.
Even with the 4 new Gilmore Girls episodes that came out!
Anyway I worked mostly on Images 3, 12, 18 and 21.

Not bad for a weekend right?

Pattern mayhem!

During the weekend I mostly worked on Image 3 and  sorted and laid out all the special full Orange pieces.

Today I'm finally sure of the pattern. 

In the blog of November 11th 2014 I talk about finding a part of the pattern. The rest I would know once I was done with all the pink. 

Well, I figured it out today (or at least I think so). 

In November this is wat I figured out: 

"For now this is my conclusion:

Image 2, 6, 10, 14, 18, 22, 26 and 30 have the same cutting pattern

Image 3, 7, 11, 15, 19, 23, 27 and 31 have the same cutting pattern too, but turned 180 degrees."

So this is how I visualised it: 

The blue arrows point what way the pattern goes.

Then I found a second pattern on some Images and this one turned 180 degrees in some Images too. So Image 13 was pointing down, 12 up, 21 down and 29 down.  

At that point I assumed:

Blue Pattern:

Image 2,6,10,14,18, 22, 26 and 30

Blue Pattern turned 180 degrees:

Image 3, 7, 11, 15, 19, 23, 27 and 31

Red Pattern:

Image 4, 8, 12, 16, 120, 24, 28 and 32

Red Pattern turned 180 degrees:

Image 1, 5, 9, 13, 17, 21, 25 and 29.

Looked nice and simple, but then! Mayhem

I found this: Image 5 and 21 had the Blue pattern pointing up! 

Now how could I miss this before? Well the patterns don't always match up in the corner of the Image. They shift 1 or 2 rows up or down. 

So now the pattern is even simpler: 

But the puzzling so much more annoying, because that means even more exactly the same shaped pieces.

But still, it's progress. 

And while I was going through all the Images, I found Image 21 again, where I still had a lot of Black-Orange pieces to putdown. So that's what I did today. 

I need to hurry up if I want to be finished by Christmas!

Slow progress

It's not going fast!

But I made some progress on Image 12 and Image 18.

The little purple post-it notes are two the corresponding pieces on Image 12 and Image 18. It saves some time of I'm looking for something to have a couple of reference points.

Now that I look back at these Images from right after I finished all the pink,

it doesn't look so bad.
I did connect a little more, from Image 23 and from some random Images, but not much.

However I did lay out all the "normal" Black-Orange pieces too.
This is how it looks like. (you will understand that I banned kids from playing hide and seek in this room :)

Next step laying out all whole Orange pieces, because as you can see I could really use them in Image 12 and 18.

The next 2 weeks Pim is on a trip to Australia, so I will have lots of evening time to make some progress.

Annoyed already :)

Yesterday I did finish the baby from Image 29.

And I sorted all black-dark orange pieces by shape.

Then I put down all the special shaped pieces and tried to puzzle with those on Image 18 and Image 21.

It got bad really fast!

Well, I knew I was going to find multiple pieces with the same shape.
But I kind of forgot how annoying that is!

It seems cool right, take all the pieces with the same shape, connect them and you work on different Images at the same time.
BUT...
Not all the pieces that I should connect are in the orange-black pile. Some might be in the "only Orange" pile or even worse, ..in the white and black pile that I will not see until almost finishing the whole puzzle!
So I try to connect as many pieces as I can but then I have loose pieces or pieces where clearly the Image isn\'t right.
I have 14 Images with dark orange. So in the worst case I could have 14 duplicates of one piece.

Tomorrow I think I will lay out all "normal" black-dark orange pieces.
The more pieces I can lay out the easier it is.

First orange piece down!

Yesterday I started with the light orange - black pieces.
It's an easy start since there aren't that many pieces and I have a big chunk of pink piece that connects to it.
 

So of course I sorted them by shape and...

Found the first connecting piece!

During the day I took out the full light orange pieces and pretty much had the backwards bending figure from Image 26 done in one day. 

And! I have a small piece of another image:

Today I don't have a lot of time, but I'll try to finish as much of the baby as possible.

Also I should have taken out the pieces with light orange out of the ones with a second color. 

It won't be a lot of them but I might need them here.

Finally!

After almost 2 years I took it out again. 

This is why I said I wanted to finish the puzzle in 10 years, because I knew I would have long pauzes.
In these 2 years we lived in California for 6 months and we moved to our own house!

Now that my Christmas Cards for 2016 are made I have some time for the Big Big puzzle. 

So today I took all pieces containing Orange and all the assembled pink pieces that connect to orange. 

Then I started... Sorting.
I decided to sort everything like I did with the pink, but now I knew there is a little color difference, so I have light orange and dark orange and decided to sort those out too. So I have:

1. completely dark orange
2. dark orange - black
3. completely light orange
4. light orange - black
5. orange - white
6. orange - black - pink (YES! because I sorted them wrong before)
7. orange - black - green
8. orange - black - yellow
9. orange - black - blue
10. orange - black - red

I didn't sort light and dark orange out of the ones with a second color because there are so little pieces it's not worth it.

For today I tried to put down the 7 Orange - black - pink pieces I had. I managed to put down 5, the 2 left will  come at a later time.

The goal is to be done with orange before Christmas.
