DONE!

July 5th 2014 - September 13th 2020: IT IS DONE!

After some moving of borders I got really frustrated with the cutlines, so

I decided do puzzle the last lines on the floor, so I spread all the images out.

The cutlines are so frustrating, pieces don't fit nicely and I
wanted to be done with this puzzle, so I shoved some of them in with force.

Since I am missing 2 pieces and no place to put the whole image I decided
I will just dump the puzzle in the recycling.

So here ends this adventure. It took me 6 years and 2 months to finish this puzzle. I gave myself 10 years, so I am well within that timeframe.
For now I'm done puzzling for a while and I don't think I will make bigger puzzles.
Even though they do exist.
I'll happily make some 1000 - 5000 piece puzzles, but not more :)

Daunting White!

I really wished the puzzle was done, and I'm not looking forward to all that white!

I'll try the same approach as with the black and white pieces. At least I do not need anything to line up and hopefully all the white is similar enough to be interchangeable.

I also took all the border pieces and those were pretty easy to figure out where they needed to be placed.

So today (September 9th 2020 I finished putting all of the border pieces down!

The problem area are the 2 fully white lines between images. Those are cut lines and pieces tend to not always fit nicely, even if you have the correct pieces. On top of that there are 28 similar pieces and they are not 100% identical and not always interchangeable. It makes the proces of deciding which piece of the 28th to use difficult.

Yellow! Quickly Red en Now White Border!

8 th May 2019. That's when I started again on the Doubble Retrospect.
This time it was Yellow time! After I did yellow, I didn't put everything together, I decided I would quickly start with the last real color, red.
So I started that in September 2019 And finished around Januari 2020.
It's the Start of March now and I decided to slowly start with the border.

Now I think my approach to that border will be a little different than with the colors.
Now I have to work with all 32 pictures.

I'mdoing the white-Black first.
This is the plan:

I noticed with the "special pieces that it's quite easy to see the same piece over and over again, so I sorted them that way.
(although it takes a lot of time!)

I also numbered the lines of pieces, what I mean by that is I took image nr1 as reference and the border of the color are the lines 0. If I have an image with more lines they are +1 or m+2 andif they are less it's -1 or even -2.

So in principle If I have all the pieces sorted by identical and I know where they go I can just put them in their place, I just don't know on what image they go.

So after a while I gave up on having the line perfectly aligned, because I was going CRAZY! I kept on shuffling them around and never got ALL of them perfect.

One of the reasons why I gave up is because as soon as the puzzle is completely made I'm tossing it.
I'm pretty sure I'm already missing a piece (completely yellow) and I don't have a wall long enough to hang it anyway.

So by June all the black white borders were done.
I'm leaving all the boards on my table so I can finish it as soon as possible!

Euh... big Updates. Part 1.

Apparently it has been a while since I wrote something about this project :) Oeps!

SO that intermittent puzzle was super fun to make, although it had some downsides.

When I opened the box, a lot of the pieces had broken appendices. Like this:
So I got in touch with customer service, and I could get a new one (but that would take months) or a refund. SO I got the refund and decided I would try to make the puzzle with the small pieces.

And I did.

And I forgot to take a picture of the finished puzzle.
I haven't glued it yet I still plan to, but I am missing 1 piece, and not one of the tiny broken off pieces. It's a border! I am holding off on glueing it in the hope I still find it somewhere, but It's been almost 2 years and haven't found it yet.

It's now March 2023 and I finally glued the puzzle down and made a frame frame for it.

O OH! Late Birthday gift and prioritising.

Hi!

Pim ordered my Birthday gift in Januari, but it was out of stock and only came in the mail today!
It's a 5000 pieces puzzle of a color band.

AND I'm totally making this one now.
I plan to glue and hang it in my craft room, so I don't want to wait another 6 years before starting it!

Since Pim will be traveling a lot in June, I have some extra time and want to have it done by July 13th. After that Alexis has Summer vacation and we will be away.
I'll keep you posted here!

Didn't make it.

So,  ..I didn't quite finish before our guests arrived, but I was done by April 16th.
Not bad!

My goal to ignore the double pieces lasted a bit, but in the end I couldn't resist and ended up with a whole bunch of half put together pieces.
And when I was done I still had quite a bit of pieces left over. I decided to keep them until the guest room is empty and I can lay down the whole puzzle again.
For now this is how the boards are stored
And the left over pieces

A slightly different approach.

So far, it's not going fast, but that's nothing new.
With so many pieces it takes time to look for just the right one.
And this time I'm trying to avoid to pull out to much of the "doubles", those are pieces with exactly the same shape.
With the previous colors I would pull out any doubles that I came across, but that means I get a lot of parts of images and it's not always obvious to what Image they belong. In the end a lot of times it turns out to be pieces of different images put together in such a way that they fit and make sense, but they need to be taken apart anyway.

By doing it this way I hope to avoid the confusing part somewhere halfway through all the blue pieces when I try to put down those "double" piece and it turns out I've put them together wrong.
We'll see how it goes.
